Therapy for capable, high-functioning adults —in Santa Ana, CA

You’ve learned how to function at a high level, even when you’re overwhelmed. You show up, push through, and handle what needs to be handled. Other people may see you as grounded, thoughtful, or impressive—but they don’t always see how much pressure you put on yourself, how hard it is to let your guard down, or how lonely it can feel to always be the one carrying so much. Underneath the competence, you may feel anxious, stuck, disconnected from yourself, or tired in a way that rest alone doesn’t fix.

You need someone who can see past how well you carry it.

I’m Marissa Honjiyo. I’m a no bullshit therapist—straightforward, honest, and not passive. If something is keeping you stuck, we’ll talk about it. If a pattern keeps showing up, we’ll get curious about it together. You may be high-functioning, self-aware, and still exhausted by the belief that if you let up, everything might catch up with you.

I specialize in anxiety, attachment wounds, relationship issues, and eating disorders. I work with high-functioning adults who are tired of surviving through self-control, overthinking, or staying one step ahead of what hurts.

I believe healing happens in relationship. Our work together can help you understand yourself more deeply, heal family-of-origin wounds, and build more secure, fulfilling relationships.

My approach is grounded in attachment theory, relational therapy, and psychodynamic therapy. I’m also trained in Brainspotting Level 1 and Restoration Therapy Level 2.

If you’re ready to do the work, therapy with me can be a place to stop repeating the same patterns, understand what’s driving them, and create real change—not just in theory, but in the way you live and relate.

The Patterns I Help With

Overthinking & self-criticism

Living in your head, second-guessing yourself, and feeling like nothing you do is ever enough

Being the strong one

Holding it together on the outside while privately feeling overwhelmed, alone, or worn down.

Relationship patterns that keep repeating

Overgiving, pulling away, fear of abandonment, emotional distance, or choosing unavailable people.

People-pleasing & overfunctioning

Taking care of everyone else, carrying too much, and losing touch with your own needs.

Food, body image, & control

Restriction, bingeing, shame, obsessive thoughts, and never feeling fully at ease in your body.

Family-of-origin & attachment wounds

Old dynamics that still shape how you relate, cope, and move through the world.

Why Work With Me

  • * Because therapy should do more than help you function a little better.

  • A lot of my clients are capable, insightful, and very good at holding it together. They know how to push through, stay productive, and keep going. What they need is a place to stop performing, understand the patterns beneath the surface, and begin building a way of living that feels more honest, connected, and sustainable.

  • You need someone who can stay with you beneath the performance, name what’s actually happening, and help you do something different.
